Gallery 1988, a pop culture-themed gallery in LA, had a show called 30 Years Later in April 2018.
For the exhibition, I created these two pieces of Winona Ryder who starred in two classics that year, the high school dark comedy Heathers and cult classic Beetlejuice.
Winona is Veronica Sawyer in Heathers and has some of my favourite lines, including “This can’t be just a spoke in my menstrual cycle”, and “How Very” and the title for the piece is ‘What's your damage Heather?”
In Beetlejuice Winona plays Lydia Deetz, and the piece is titled after her line “My whole life is a dark room.”
Both embroideries are stitched with cotton and sit in an 8″ hoop.
